We finished up in Kansas on July 6th but we knew our Montana crops were not ready. So, we decided to stay in Kansas and go to Dillon’s family reunion.
The reunion was not until the 10th-12th of July in Abilene, Kansas. While we waited, the boys worked HARD on some combine projects! It was also the hottest it had been all summer and the boys were working 10-hour days outside.
They replaced a final drive on Colston’s combine, which is not a big project. However, you have to take off the big front tire, so it was time consuming. We were so thankful that we have a crane on the service truck!
However, Riggin’s combine had a BIG project done to it. The boys replaced the front and rear feeder chains, as well as the clean grain and return elevator chains. This would normally be a winter project but we just picked these combines up in May and it needed to be done.
If you know my husband, he can’t be idle. We had the time so it got done in 100° instead of -20°. Not sure which is worse. This project took about two days to complete.
The boys were definitely ready to head to the family reunion for a break! We decided to take our camper rather than getting a hotel so we hooked up our “house on wheels” and hit the road on Friday morning!
What a FANTASTIC time we had. When we first found out about the reunion, in March, being scheduled in July, I was 95% sure we wouldn’t be able to go. We just don’t get to do many activities in the summer so we were all pretty bummed that it wouldn’t work out. But, lo and behold, we were able to make it!!
We had family come from Massachusetts, Florida, Montana, Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Georgia and North Carolina. We are spread out all over so was sure glad everyone was able to make it. There were some we hadn’t seen in over five years. What memories were made! It was just so nice to have no where to rush off to and no itinerary. We were able to just sit and visit for two whole days!
Friday night we had sandwiches and side dishes. Saturday night, Kim (Dillon’s cousin) and Dale had an amazing BBQ meal catered in.
The kids played in the pond, water slide, rode bikes, drove battery-operated cars, volleyball, rode four wheelers and just had fun being outside running around like feral cats!
We headed back Sunday afternoon and stayed one more night in St. Francis. We had the equipment already loaded so Monday morning we took our first trip to Montana.
