Kylee DeBock – DeBock Harvesting
My last post talked about us being busy with calving heifers.
We have since FINISHED!!!
We had some trying times but the “girls” finished strong with two of the last three heifers blessing us with twins.
One heifer, #62, blessed us with two heifers. I named them Lucy and Ethel. However, #62 was less then pleased with her blessings and didn’t want anything to do with them. Crazy heifer!
In my last post, I mentioned buying a set of twins, Bo and Luke. Well, since they were old enough and had already started eating grain on their own, we pulled them off of Bessie and we gave her Lucy and Ethel. She is such a sweet heifer and actually acts like a BIG dog. She loves to be scratched all over and since she is so sweet, she lovingly took the girls.
A few days later, #8166 blessed us with another set. This time, a bull and a heifer we named them Johnny and June! At least this time, momma took one – Johnny. She kept leaving poor June all by herself. So, guess what? She got put in with Bessie and she took her, too.
I know what you might be thinking. How does one momma have enough milk for three babies? She doesn’t. That’s why I feed all the girls a bottle twice a day. They just “snack” on Bessie throughout the day. So, I essentially have three bottle babies and I couldn’t be happier about it. I LOVE bottle babies!
We are now a family of eight! Jeff’s wife, Karynne, joined us on March 15th. She has been a wonderful addition to the family and the kitchen! She is a fantastic cook!
Over spring break, we were planning a trip to Houston to see Dillon’s Grandpa Jim and go to the Houston fair and rodeo. We were planning on leaving on Saturday the 14th (my birthday) to head that way with a short pitstop in Shamrock, Texas to see our nephews at the St. Patrick’s Day celebration. But on Wednesday, Riggin woke me up in the middle of the night throwing up and running a fever. He didn’t go to school on Thursday and slept most of that day.
On Friday, he was fine so we thought the trip was back on. Then Friday night, Colston started throwing up and running a fever. We decided we better not go to Houston.
Dillon and I woke up Saturday morning not feeling well. We just sent Riggin on with his grandparents to Shamrock so he could enjoy the day with his cousins.
Now, we are finally all better and thought we would go ahead and head to Houston to see Jim. However, now his hospital is on lockdown and the rodeo was canceled because of the coronavirus!
School is postponed until April 6th, hospitals and nursing homes are on lock-down, sports teams cancelled the rest of the season, restaurants are no longer able to serve people inside (takeout only), toilet paper is in HIGH demand, grocery store shelves have never been so bare, singers are canceling concerts, livestock shows are being cancelled, churches are cancelled and the list goes on and on and on. All because of the corona virus (COVID-19).
We have been asked to stay home as much as possible and limit our groups to no more than ten people. It is the craziest thing I have ever witnessed in my life. I am only 37, but this is the craziest thing that most 80-year-old people have ever seen too.
We cannot live in fear, but these precautions have been put in place to insure everyone’s safety. This is a time to lean on God more than ever. We don’t understand His plan but we have to believe in it because He has a reason for everything and we need to trust in it!
My prayers are not only for the USA, but the world, to be put under the hand of God and His protection.
God Bless,
Kylee DeBock
