The “In Betweens”

Nancy Eberts – Eberts Harvesting Inc.

Some days a song hits ya and is worth another listen.

This morning, as I was following Myron to the field, a song came on the country music radio station. Generally, I prefer silence but at 5 o’clock in the morning, it was important to stay awake (or at least focus until my coffee cooled down a bit).

Anyway, the song was by Scotty McCreery and called, “In Between”…

I enjoyed listening to it, and highly recommend it.

All in all, it is still pretty amazing how some songs (no matter the genre) can simply spell it out for you through music and lyrics.

“In Between” – Isn’t it truly how we spend our days, our seasons, and even our moments? Somewhere in between the good and bad, the planting and the harvest, the maintenance and moving, the hiring and training, even the breakdowns and the actual harvesting.

Sometimes, I wonder if there is too much of our time spent worrying and it simply takes over our “Happy”.

I can honestly say, in the last couple of years, my worry did.

But no more…this time, this day, this month, this year I won’t let it.  I am determined to carry out our “in betweens”!

The reality is, in these moments, during these “in betweens”, it is where a lot of the good things happen. Where friendships speak the loudest and where actions speak louder than words. It is where a handshake means work and prayers bind all of this “stuff” together.

There isn’t a month that doesn’t have “in betweens”. In May we have graduations, school programs, branding prior to putting cattle on pasture, planting, spraying, trucking, etc. etc., the list can go on and on.  To make things a little more interesting, there are the low commodity prices, tons of paper work, operating loans, insurance payments and the weather reports. Sometimes the worry is pretty big and it seems like everyone is going somewhere fast.

We need only to stop and consider those who are suffering from an illness, a setback or, worse, a loss.

Our journeys are all unique but yet very often familiar – I think that is why music and lyrics affect us so.

Seems we are all working hard to simplify.

So, in closing, enjoy the moments…all the moments…and turn on the radio once in awhile and just listen to the music.

Try Kenny Rogers’  “Slow Dance More”. Another golden oldie I haven’t forgotten…

I know the older I get, the more Trace Adkins’ song, “You’re Gonna Miss This” means to me…

What’s your song today?
