Kylee DeBock / DeBock Harvesting
I wanted to write a post to finish up our year and it had been so long since I had done one, I had to look back to see where I left off.
My goodness! It was way back in August when the kids started school! So, bear with me as I get you all caught up on the happenings of DeBock Harvesting!
We returned to Powers Lake with the last load of equipment on August 7th.
We were all pretty tired so after unloading everything, we just headed to the house to eat and relax. About 7:30 that evening, a huge hail storm came through Powers Lake and wiped out all 500 acres of the wheat we had planted.
It was a total loss! And VERY devastating. We were under a week from being harvested.
Our wheat was the first thing we planted this spring. We had planned on harvesting it first before starting on other farmers. Since it was hailed out, there nothing else quite ready yet so we had a week off to get some things done around our rental house.
We finally started cutting peas on August 13th which kept us busy for a bit before moving onto some durum and barley.

We had a few rain delays here and there but, for the most part, we stayed very busy the whole month of August and September.
We are always glad that Dennis comes to help us in Montana and North Dakota. He had to head home on September 11th. He farms in South Dakota and his beans and corn were almost ready to be harvested.
We stayed busy the first few weeks of October and then the North Dakota weather pattern set in. This meant it was foggy every morning causing late starts and short days. At this rate, harvest really starts to drag out when you only get to cut 4-6 hours a day.
Our new house project has been going on all summer. The builders send us videos every Friday to showcase the progress. Colston had a football game in Bottineau which was only a few hours drive to where our house is being built, so we decided to go and look at it mid-October.

Since the harvest days had been short and the cold weather was setting in, this made camper life a bit more difficult. Carter headed home that same weekend. We were sure thankful for his help all summer and my boys had the best time having someone their age on the road with us.
Our harvest wrapped up on November 2. We cleaned up equipment and parked everything for the year.
The weather was pretty good so we decided to start some projects on our to-do list over at OUR house. We got the snow fence built on the west side of the property; along with setting some of our steel corners that will be needed for our five-wire fence.
Colston and Riggin both had really good football seasons and the high school team made it to the first round of playoffs! The season ended mid-November. As always we enjoy watching them play and, even though football season is crazy busy with harvest, we rarely miss a game!

Over the Thanksgiving week, we met my sister and her family as well as my mom in Florida. After spending a few days in Miami, we boarded the Freedom of the Seas Cruise Ship and had the BEST time. My nieces are the exact age as my boys and have grown up together. Because of our move to North Dakota, our time together has been limited the last two years. It was so great getting to spend an entire week with my family. Our port days were George Town, Cayman and Nassau, Bahamas. We made some really great memories!

December is almost over and the new year is FAST approaching. This weekend we will be heading to Canada to tour the Elmer’s Grain Cart plant, and look at our house one more time before it gets moved in mid-January.
We are all so excited that our home will be here soon and we get to start another chapter in our lives.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you all!
God Bless,
Kylee DeBock
