Dana Petersen – L. Petersen Farms
CHAPTER 21. SOUTHBOUND. July 3/19.
We have launched forth on our harvest adventure for 2019! L. Petersen Farms is leaving Canada the latest ever in 21 years of harvest in the USA! Currently, we are headed to Goodland, Kansas to harvest the winter wheat of one of our original farmers that we harvested for back in 1998.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an adventure without some HICCUPS! Some of them major, some of them minor. A quick recap:
(a) blew a wheel bearing four miles from home.
(b) took out a fuel pump on the service truck in South Dakota on the first trip south.
(c) semi, just out of the shop, had to return to the shop to fix the other two solenoids on the side of the engine.
(d) and one of our Auzzie’s is still awaiting his visa, so that he can enter the USA (it was in Regina, but they sent it back to Calgary before he could pick it up😊)…. he will join us as soon as he can track it down.
But on a positive note, the wheat isn’t quite ready but will be once we get there…and with all the delays, the kids and I finished up the school year and we are able to travel with the crew this year! THIS HAS NOT happened since 2006! Our two youngest (Tilynn and Rhett) are ecstatic to get to travel south with the crew and convoy.
This is also Tyson’s (our oldest) first year of helping his father haul equipment. He obtained his Class 1A (AZ license) last fall and has looked forward to the opportunity to be with the crew when they made the first trek south. (The first load made its way south last week.)
Usually. we are in Kansas and harvesting on July 4th but this year we will be travelling to our destination.
Wishing everyone a delightful July 4th, wherever you are.
