Kylee DeBock / DeBock Harvesting
It has been a few months since I wrote an update for DeBock Harvesting. My last post had us finishing up in Montana and moving equipment to North Dakota. Well, here it is the middle of October now and we still are not done with harvest yet.
Lets talk football first!
Colston started his freshman year of High School and practice began the first week of August. So, we lost him at the end of our Montana job. There was about a week left of work before we were able to get back to North Dakota.
His first game was August 18th and, thank goodness, we were there to watch. I do not like missing events that my boys are in. Unfortunately, they did not win but Colston did get to play a few snaps.
Fast forward a few games and a lot of hard work and Colston is STARTING on both sides of the ball!! I am so PROUD of this boy and his determination and work ethic. He puts everything he has into whatever he is doing. Colston plays outside linebacker for defense and he had many tackles throughout the season. Offensively, he plays wide receiver and running back. He had several carries for good gains as well as catching his first High School touchdown reception in a great game against Kenmare.
Riggin had a great season, as well!
This was his last year in elementary and he improved quite a bit over the season and is really fun to watch. He is a stout kid and is hard to bring down when he carries the ball! He, too, plays both sides of the ball. On defense, he plays middle linebacker. On offense, he plays running back. They do run a play were the quarterback pitches him the ball and he throws a pass to a wide receiver; which, almost every time they run the play, they scored a touchdown! It was a fun season and we are very proud of him!
My mom, Christy, came to North Dakota to watch the boys play football in September.
Luckily, one of the rain delays happened to be while she was here so I was especially thankful for that! I was able to spend time with my mom instead of working. She was here for six days and was able to watch both boys play in two games.
I enjoyed her being here so much and look forward to her coming back again.
While she was here, she stayed with my landlord, Mark. The local hotel was full and I do not have extra beds in my camper anymore and my rent house had no furniture. I am glad he offered to host her so she had a comfortable place to stay. He even gave her a car to drive while she was here which was very thoughtful.
Okay okay, I guess we will talk about harvest now.
Dillon and I lease land in North Dakota so as soon as we got unloaded, we headed straight to our peas. Once those were finished, we cut our spring wheat and then we started cutting for our customers.
Since we were at the end of the season, we had some maintenance jobs we needed to tend to so we were thankful for the first rain delay that gave us time to get the jobs done.
Dennis, the man that helped us finish up in Montana, came and helped us in North Dakota for another month before he had to head back to his farm to harvest his corn and beans. We were very thankful that he was able to help us since the boys were back in school and we lost all our help.
After Dennis went home, it was just Dillon and I trying to get everything done. This worked out, for the most part, since there were so many rain delays. It seemed like we would work 3 or 4 days and be off a week.
There were several weekends the kids were able to help and we were so thankful for their willingness to help us.
During the rain delays, Dillon farmed and I painted our rent house. I painted all three bedrooms, living room and office. I do not mind painting; however, I hate doing all the taping!
After I got all the painting done, we put new carpet in the bedrooms and a click and lock flooring in the office. The finished product looks great.
I am writing this post as we head to Oklahoma over fall break to get all our household items so we can get moved into our “new” home.
It will be bitter sweet as we are all looking forward to getting settled into the house in North Dakota but also sad to be closing the chapter of living in Oklahoma!
God Bless,
Kylee DeBock
