Dana Petersen – L. Petersen Farms
#Harvest18 has been a whirlwind, so far, and as the crew is off taking the first load to Montana, I can give a quick update.
The kids and I joined the crew on July 4th! It’s still a BIG deal to our Canadian kids and an annual tradition that we MUST meet up with their dad and crew for July 4th and celebrate it with all the Americans! So there we were leaving Canada on the afternoon of the 3rd and driving all through the night so that these teenagers could make Goodland,Kansas for 4th of July!
With just over 1700 kilometres to travel (roughly 1100 miles), the road has gotten much easier especially since 2/3 of the teenagers are “legal” drivers now. With only a few stops for fuel and food, we pulled into Goodland at 5:40 am on July 4th ready for our first day of harvest and ready to take on the festivities of celebrating Independence Day!
The kids and I got to experience a few days of harvest in Kansas, a week of hot, dry weather in Colorado where the combines and crew worked non-stop to get the crop off and now here we are already heading to Montana. We, like other crews, are experiencing a tough harvest year due to lighter crops and hail. One of the things we love about this way of life is that no year is ever the same and we are thankful that we do have acres to cut.
We are heading to harvest in Montana, and we will be heading to a “new” spot so we are looking forward to the adventures ahead! Happy Harvest #18
