Kylee DeBock / DeBock Harvesting
Harvest 2025 has begun for some, others are still getting ready and, as for us, we are waiting for parts in a little town just outside of South Dakota!
A few weeks ago, we made our first journey south with combines. It went pretty smooth except for a blown tire on the combine trailer. However, when traveling with a service truck that’s a pretty quick fix! That was the only issue on the way down.
We detoured to St Francis, Kansas and picked up our new headers at Yost Farm Supply. We were in Alva the next day and had combines unloaded and headers calibrated but the wheat was very green. We knew after our drive around Alva we would not be rushed to get back.
We dropped Riggin off with his friend, Keanan and Colston with his friend, Rylan. Dillon and I went on a date to Diarti’s Italian Restaurant in Woodward.
The next day, we decided since we had time we would go ahead and work our calves…we only have four now. We also retagged our cows and bull with name tags. 😉
Riggin stayed in Oklahoma and the rest of us returned to North Dakota. Things were going pretty good until we got to South Dakota. Dillon started smelling diesel so we pulled over and found that our number two and three injector lines were leaking fuel. We decided to drive it to Bismarck to a repair shop. They did not have the lines on hand so we left the Mack there and headed on home.
Colston attended the FFA convention June 2-5! While he was gone, Dillon and I worked on a few projects. The pasture our horses are in does not have any trees so we made a shade out of hay bales and a 40×40 tarp. It turned out really good!
After looking for land for over a year, Dillon and I purchased 40 acres in January!! So, we are finally able to start the building process. However, with that comes lots of prep work, which we enjoyed doing at this time. We were able to get a lot done over these few days.
One morning, we headed back to Bismarck to pick up the Mack. It ran fine all the way home and we went ahead and hooked it up to the double grain trailers and left it parked.
Fast forward to today, June 6th.
We left Powers Lake at 7:00 am and had planned on making a pretty big day of it so we could get to Alva Saturday evening. Well, that did not happen.
We only got three hours down the road and Dillon started smelling diesel, AGAIN! We pulled over and now the number one injector line is leaking. This is VERY frustrating considering we had a BRAND NEW engine put in it in January.
We have owned this truck for 17 years and, in that time, it has only left us on the side of the road one time! Now we have been on three trips and it has broke down two times.
Of course, no one has the parts. So, we ordered them and paid to overnight to Dickinson.
We backtracked an hour and set up the camper. We will be spending the night praying that they get here!
It is frustrating but in the grand scheme of things, the wheat is not ready and the forecast is calling for rain so we will enjoy this time together and the memory that was made today.
God Bless,
Kylee DeBock
