Kylee DeBock – DeBock Harvesting
It has been so long since I made a post that I had to go back and re-read my last one to see what I wrote about!
I talked about, Colston starting football and now his season is over and they finished 3-3! I am very proud of him and his hard work. He even scored two touchdowns in the last game, as well as making some great tackles on defense. He learned to play offence and defense positions so he was getting to play quite a bit for his very first year! I am already looking forward to next year.
Riggin’s Saturday flag football is over, as well. They only played the month of September. He did a really good job too! Now we will be gearing up to play basketball, the practices start next week and the season will end mid-December.
As far as the business part goes, my last post had us cutting wheat and canola. We have since finished those crops and moved on to soybeans…which is proving to be quite a struggle. Soybeans have pods just inches off the ground so in order to do a good job and get all the crop, you set your header very close to the ground. Well, when it snows two inches, it puts a halt to combining.
We have been very hit and miss again with the weather and it has been pretty stressful for farmers and harvesters. When we first started cutting soybeans in October, we had just gotten all the rains of September and it was a MUDDY MESS. We were getting combines and grain carts stuck multiple times a day, and it was not fun! (Unless you ask my eleven-year-old son. He got to drive the farmer’s quad track to help pull us out.)
Our crew had about two days one week that were good cutting days and they used every minute they could knowing the snow was coming. Dillon got into bed one night at 2:20 a.m. and the next night it was 1:45 a.m. I am so thankful for our hard-working crew and I know the farmers are too!
The weather has turned off COLD now and with that comes freezing temperatures which turned out to be good for harvesting because the ground was frozen so no more getting stuck. But as far as camper living goes, not so good! It got down to 12 degrees one night and, even though we put more insulation in our camper this spring, it didn’t keep the water pipes from freezing like we had hoped. So, again this year, the back bathroom and the kitchen sink were frozen. It was back to doing dishes in the shower!!!
Thankfully, we only had to survive that weather for one week!
This spring, Dillon and I had many conversations about spending the whole fall semester here in North Dakota. The boys love it here so much and we thought maybe if we did a semester in North Dakota and a semester in Oklahoma, the boys would transition better and be easier on the teachers. When we made that decision, we talked to some of our North Dakota friends about looking for a rental house, knowing we could not survive the North Dakota winter in our camper! My friend, Jessica, found us the perfect rental house! It is even furnished so all I had to do was move in our clothes and food! It is a three bed, two bath with a basement, so there’s even enough room for the big boys to move in, too.
I am really enjoying the conveniences of a house while still being on harvest! Funny how “we” made this decision in the spring, but we still aren’t finished harvesting and, by the looks of it, will be harvesting until December anyways. God knew what was going to happen and I am so thankful that HE helped push us in the right direction!
If you are a HarvestHER and still out on the road like us trying your hardest to get through this harvest season, I want you to know I AM PRAYING FOR YOU! Keep your head up and it will all work out!
Get up, put a smile on your face and make it a great day!
God Bless,
Kylee DeBock
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
James 1:2-5 NIV
