Double Batchin

Nancy Eberts – Eberts Harvesting Inc.

So this happened…

Did you ever get to a point where you are doing too many things at once and a problem arises?

Well, I was making supper (chicken wings and potatoes) and also making a double batch of my no-fail Chocolate Chip Cookies when Jared came in and asked about power washing the grill for me.

I immediately started walking to the garage with total glee as I love it when it gets cleaned. While walking out with him I simply put my butter Crisco on the hall tree…here is where it started:

In all of the excitement and business, I walked right by the last chunk of butter Crisco (on the hall tree) on my way back to the kitchen and proceeded to blend all the ingredients.

I already had two pans of wings and one pan of cookies in the oven when I walked back to the garage to put some stuff in the garbage. I gasped a bit when I saw the butter Crisco on the hall tree!!! I quickly did the math, as I made a double batch, and realized I was short on the butter Crisco.

However upon taking the cookies out of the oven, they looked fine and tasted okay. So, I thought, “What the heck? Maybe they will be okay.”
My crew of taste-testers made a few comments about not sweet enough and proceeded to eat the first cookie sheet full. They convinced me to simply add more chips. Beings I had already added the recommended amount of chocolate chips, I couldn’t blend in the butter Crisco so I did simply add more chips and baked ’em up! (Not sure if I was set up or not.)

I will store these cookies with a piece of bread (for softness) and will let you know how long they last!

Funny thought I had while making a double batch of dough…if I would have been thinking (back in the eighties), I would have had “double batchin” as my two-way radio handle…and a cookbook…and a webpage! LOL

Do you remember when CB’s were the thing? 😜

Been baking for a crew and family since I was 19 and always “double batchin” things…mistakes or not, LOL.
