Kylee DeBock / DeBock Harvesting
It has been quite some time since I updated you all on the DeBock Harvesting crew! So I decided to create a post to finish out the year.
Since moving to North Dakota last year, we are not out on the road as long. This has been a nice change. We left for Oklahoma the last week of May and returned to North Dakota in early August. So camper living is much shorter now, just 2.5 months instead of 5!
We got all settled back into our house just a week or so before the kids had to start back to school. Harvest is busy but when you lose half of your crew, it gets busier. Luckily, Dennis came back to help us and we managed with just the three of us.
We cut a lot of acres in North Dakotas! It’s our biggest stop which is why we put the kids in school here all those years ago. That way, we could all stay together instead of me going back to Oklahoma by myself. The move to North Dakota just made sense in so many ways.
We work for a lot of farmers here and we are now farming, as well. It has been great to harvest crops for yourself rather than just for others. This year we planted Lentils, Spring Wheat, Canola, and Barley. The weather was exceptional! We only had 4 rain days all season until we arrived in Montana so it was a fast and furious harvest with just the four of us. We did not have any hired hands until Montana.
Our crew worked long, hard hours all summer. When we arrived in Montana, the wheat was not ready so we enjoyed two days off. Once we got started again, it went fast and furious.
When we finished in Montana, our North Dakota crops were not ready so we were able to take a day and go to the lake with the Uffelman family. It was a wonderful day spent out on the water and the perfect ending to the boys’ summer!
We started cutting in North Dakota on August 18th and boys started school the next day. Trying to balance kids’ activities and harvest can be difficult but we do our very best to make every game. I love watching my boys play!
We stayed busy with harvest until September 21st, it was so nice to finish before the weather got nasty. All of the equipment got cleaned up and put away before the first snowflake fell!
My parents came for a visit in early October to watch the kids play football. They stayed with us for four days before heading back to Oklahoma. It was so wonderful to have them here to visit. I have loved living in North Dakota but not seeing my family is the one drawback. I lived 5 hours away from my parents while in Oklahoma, but we did lots of day trips and meet ups. It’s pretty hard to do that now with 1,000 miles between us! So each visit is very special.
This year, Dillon and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. DeBock Harvesting has been in business for 20 years, as well. To celebrate, we went on our very first cruise the first week of December.
We flew to Orlando and got on the Wonder of the Seas ship in Port Canaveral. We sailed to the Bahamas, Cozumel, Honduras, and Costa Maya. We met up with our good friends, Brandon, Chelsea, and their girls. The kids enjoyed swimming with dolphins in Cozumel. Snorkeling and the huge water park in the Bahamas. Holding monkeys and sloths as well as a glass-bottom boat ride to see the reef in Honduras . And deep-sea fishing in Costa Maya. Colston caught a barracuda. Riggin had something on the line but was unable to get it to the boat before it came off!
This trip was magnificent! It was the first time for me and the boys to see the ocean (Dillon went as a young kid)! So, I can finally check that off of my bucket list.
We made some amazing memories to last a lifetime!
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May your 2025 be filled with peace, love, and happiness!
God Bless,
Kylee DeBock
