Nancy Eberts – Eberts Harvesting Inc.
Just the other morning, I awoke to negative 30 plus degrees here in North Dakota. Not that it was big news, at my age, I can honestly say we’ve been through this more than once and for longer than a couple of days.
Myron and I just recently made a trip to Wisconin to visit a former hired man and his wife and also his Aunt and Uncle…my heart is still warm from that trip.
A quick getaway, a couple small bags and, of course, no cooking for me…hooray!!!!!!!…
We went to see Zach and Tracy first. Tracy’s folks have a 740 head dairy farm and I was super excited to relive my younger days “in the barn”. Plus, I knew Tracy had some chickens and so, again, my memories of feeding and butchering chickens were brewing .
Feed ’em up!
It was just simply great – visiting and staying with them. These kinds of relationships happen for us on the harvest and are always something we cherish. Zach worked for us officially in 2007 and 2008. He came back for weddings, to help out, occasional visits and still keeps in touch with our kids!
He was, and is, always fun to work with, can do anything and everything and still finds time to volunteer as a firefighter.
He is now on the farming side of Golden Ridge Dairy. His lovely wife, Tracy, is also a hard worker. Truly, and simply, there isn’t anything she can’t do. I tell her all the time she needs to be a part of HarvestHER! The world needs to be educated on milk and dairy farms! But. I don’t think she sits long enough to write a story. Her love for animals and the outdoors are very visible! She is…She – I, She – I, O!!! (love that song)
We spent all of Saturday morning and afternoon checking out the barns and buildings.
This is a much bigger and more well-calculated business than my family’s little ‘ole dairy barn ever was. An impressive, clean, happy and forever productive Dairy farm. The only thing that looked the same were the udders and the milk tank, lol. But I loved the smells, the calves, the content calves and cows and our detailed tour!
What a great day and awesome place. The dairy farmers deserve our support and recognition, I know of very few businesses or people who are running on a 24-hour schedule – rain or shine – heat or cold – 24/7/365!!! God Bless them.
We ended the afternoon at an antique store and then enjoyed margaritas and some scrumptious Mexican cuisine. We consider Zach and Tracy family and we were so tickled to spend time with them.
Tracy’s chicken coops were simply adorable and FUN! Each decorated with so much love and full of color. There were chickens whose breed and names I can’t remember, beautiful colors and attitudes, turkeys, ducks, roosters and even a peacock! As a youngster, I didn’t see the beauty in the chickens we raised. I only saw the drumsticks and feet. (I grew up on chicken feet in cream gravy – YUM!)
Seeing Tracy’s coop made me appreciate poultry! I also admire her hard work on the coops and how she takes care of them.
Pure, simple, fun, colorful and country enjoyment.
Zach and Tracy’s house was, again, so beautifully decorated and nestled in, what I think are, the most beautiful pine trees ever! I simply fell in love. I need to head back in all the seasons!
Thanks guys! Much love and respect.
After two nights, we headed to see Myron’s Aunt and Uncle in Stevens Point. We went to Mass at just a small 1,800 family parish…lol. We enjoyed visiting, playing Farkle and getting a scrumptious home-cooked meal. We were tickled to see Curt, Sue and Rhonda.
On Monday, Leota and I headed off to an appointment while Myron and Ray drove around checking out lots and equipment. Some great one-on-one time. With family, there are moments that you just know, “this I will cherish”. That was our stay with Ray and Leota.
No fancy vacation, trip, business meeting or beach could ever match our getaway. Doing what we love gives us this opportunity and families are forever!
Blessed beyond measure.
