Nancy Eberts – Eberts Harvesting Inc.
I think 2018 has been a most interesting and trying year for all harvesters.
It is not over, by any means, but agriculture has taken a hit in these wonderful flyover states and the ripple effects are only beginning. But we all keep moving forward.
This morning, I frosted some rolls and still early, I drove into MARTIN, picked up Jenny Bushutski and we headed to Gordon, Nebraska. To visit Lynn Prevost. We knew we’d have to start early so everyone could be back to their fields before noon. After the few rains we all had here this week and fields not ready all at once due to rains during planting, it provided us the opportunity to get away.
Coffee, in hand, and rolls in the backseat, Jen and I visited and drove and were giddy about meeting up with HarvestHER and HarvestHER Retreat buddy, Lynn.
Lynn graciously invited us in and we chatted truly for hours! The sprinkles of rain gave way to concerned glances outside and at the weather map but somehow we just kept sharing, talking, laughing and, of course, eating. Concerns, stories and ideas on how to cope with less acres, less help, less bushels, and even less harvesters as some have already headed home.
We all shared how trailer parks weren’t nearly as full and some stops simply weren’t made. Whom we have seen and those we didn’t see this year on the run. We talked of kids, families, even husbands. Lynn shared a few new places to eat.
I can’t explain how sweet it was to get with like-minded individuals over a cup of coffee in a camper! Many a year (as I was in the cab of a combine), I simply missed out on these kind of conversations. I truly relished every minute and knew our time in Omaha cemented our friendships.
Lynn shared some of the projects she’s been working on through the rain delays…such beautiful items! We suggested she teach us at the next retreat! I might even be making another trip to her beautiful camper to paint soon! Jen will be headed to Montana soon.
