Well, that went fast!!
How in the world is it already the middle of August? This summer has truly flown by! Besides the week rain delay in Oklahoma, we have stayed VERY busy. Lots of late nights, early mornings, and long moves!
We are in Powers Lake, North Dakota now and this is our last stop, so we are now stationary longer than 7-10 days. Thank goodness our moving days are over for awhile!
When we finish up in Hardin, Montana, we normally go to Havre, Montana. However, this year, with the drought, there just wasn’t enough acres to make that big move, so we moved directly to North Dakota.
Most years when we get to North Dakota, our farmers have finished the peas and we jump right into barley.
This year, however, we leased 300 acres from our farmer and we planted peas and flax so we needed to be in North Dakota sooner. We actually had both of our combines in Tioga, North Dakota in July. That has never happened! We started cutting our peas on July 31st!
When Dillon came to Tioga this spring to plant, it was extremely dry. He was very concerned that the crop would struggle getting started because of the lack of moisture in the ground. However, when he was done planting and fixing to head home (he was there for six weeks) it rained for two days. God is good!
With that rain to get all the crops started, and another timely rain later on to help them along, the yields have been really good. We were very pleased with the turn out of our peas and looking forward to cutting our flax in a week or so!
Colston is going into junior high so he is having football practices before school starts this year.
Last week he had practice from 8:00 am – 10:00 am (but had to be up at 6 to be on the bus at 7 because they co-op with another school) then when he got home he would shower, eat lunch and then head to the field to work till 11:00 pm. He was pulling double-duty and I am really proud of him for doing both without complaint.
School will start on the 24th and we will miss our boys being in the field with us.
God Bless,
