Kylee DeBock / DeBock Harvesting
Our start in Alva was delayed due to the Mack breaking down in Dickinson, North Dakota.
We had paid for overnight shipping but, unfortunately, it did not show up until Monday. We picked the part up and headed back to the Mack. Dillon and Colston replaced the injector and we were back on the road.
We had planned on being in Alva before the wheat was ready but the breakdown cost us three days so that did not happen. We got to the farmer’s yard, unloaded and went straight to the field.
We cut for a few days before the first round of rain came in. That gave the boys time to go pick up our new grain cart and make a bracket to put the big air compressor on the dolly for easier transport to the field.

We fought mud in several fields. We got the grain cart and combines stuck a few times but each time it was pulled out with ease!
With the rain delays, we were able to attend the Woodward Elks Rodeo, go fishing and swimming.

My parents came for a visit over the weekend; however, we were working while they were there so they took turns riding in the combines with the boys and going to the elevator with me in my truck.

It was so great to spend time with them. Mom fixed us dinner and brought it out to the field. It was so nice having a home-cooked meal!
While in Alva, I was able to keep up with just one truck so Dillon got to stay in the field and run the cart. However, when we moved to Dacoma, the wheat was making 90 bu/ac so the second truck was getting full before I was back with mine. We decided to see if Colston could have one of his friends come over and help us like he did last year. His friend, Carter Cummings, was able to come and help us the next day. We were very thankful for the help and he did such a great job that we asked him to stay on for the rest of harvest!
Our Oklahoma harvest took longer than it should have with all the rain delays so we did not get moved to Kansas until July 1st.

We were able to unload at St. Francis, Kansas and head straight to the field. It was a really good thing we had asked Carter to come with us because Dillon and I have been super busy in the trucks here too!

On July 4th, we had a morning rain shower so the boys just serviced equipment and then set up a target in the field and shot guns for a little while. At noon, my family arrived, picked up lunch and brought it out to our Airbnb.
With the rain shower, we got to hang out at the house till about 3:00 while the kids played pool and foosball. It was a nice afternoon just visiting with family. However, the sun ended up coming out so we headed back to the field and started cutting again until about 7:30.

We stopped and headed back to the Airbnb where my mom had prepared us a meal. We then went to Bird City, Kansas to watch their amazing thirty-minute fireworks display.

July 5th was a full day of cutting. Everyone picked a combine or truck and rode around all day. My sister and mom prepared another home-cooked meal and brought it out to the field.

We got rained out not long after dinner so we headed in for the night. Kids were able to have another pool tournament. Riggin and Carter were the Champions; winning four of the seven games.
Sunday morning, my family had to head home and we went to church before heading to the field.

We were able to cut until about 9:00 PM before we got another rain shower. This one was pretty big, so no cutting again until after lunch today…if at all.
I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!
God Bless,
Kylee DeBock
