Lindsey Sterkel – Colby, Kansas
Hello everyone!! It has been awesome getting to see where everyone is at and how things are going! I miss harvest so much, but it sure helps reading everyone’s stories! I get my harvest fix watching and following all of you!
I have gone from being in the field everyday driving a big rig to working in the office at American Implement in Colby, KS. Now I get the opportunity to take care of CSR/AMS, which means I get to run out to the country, help take care of farmers and, best of all, meet and talk with all of them!!
Turk has been working with a farmer in the area, Lon Frahm with Frahm Farmland. They have planted around 24,000 acres of corn this year, so fall harvest will keep him busy! I got to ride in the combine a little bit with Turk, which is one of my most favorite spots, the buddy seat of a combine!!! They run four combines and take their grain to their bins at the farm.
Wheat harvest has come to a close here in Colby, Kansas! This year, Colby has had a rough time with harvest. We’ve had wide-spread hail and not just once but a few times. It has done its number on the wheat, for sure, and on the corn, as well. It has made harvest a little shorter than normal. We were hoping the corn would grow out of it and, in areas, it is but in other areas, crop adjusters have told farmers to turn their pivots off. On the plus side, where there wasn’t hail, farmers had some pretty good wheat ranging from 50-70 bushels in areas!
I hope everyone is having a safe and fun harvest!
