Lindsey Sterkel – Deibert Harvesting (JKD, INC)
Today started out a little rough. The field crew had to road the combines and grain carts 1.5-2 hours away from the farm which meant them leaving at 6:00 this morning. Luckily, it was mountain time and not central so we gained an hour. When I got out this morning, there was some confusion so after about 5-6 calls to Turk and swapping trucks, we played “follow the leader” to the field.
The field is yielding really well and test weights and proteins are pretty good, also.
While I was taking pictures standing on the grain trailer, the wind decided to get crazy and blow my sunglasses off my head and after juggling them and bouncing them everywhere, they ended up in my empty hopper bottom…I was staring at them thinking maybe the wind would push them back up? Nope, it didn’t. I was thinking I could open my hopper but the tiny bit of wheat that’s left in it will go on the ground and I don’t want that but if I slide down, I might not (most likely won’t be able to) get back out because I’m too short! Well, I ended up opening the hopper bottom because I thought it was better to crawl up then try to crawl out.
We had a truck start an oil leak and switched it around. We also had lines at the elevator for 45 mins to a little over an hour. And driving through Wall, SD in the peak of their tourist season…I can’t say is my favorite. The tourists really don’t understand our world and don’t understand there needs to be some room left for a wide turn on a tiny street.
I love seeing the other HarvestHER stories, where everyone is and seeing what everyone’s up to!
