Erica Brown – Brown Acres Custom Harvesting
Due to the rain and lower temps, we won’t be harvesting for a few days. The hills and roads are a slimy mess. The area is a lot greener than we typically see; usually it’s mostly brown. One of the trucks got stuck on a road while loaded with a combine and header behind. The farmer thought it would be fine; however, it wasn’t.
On Friday, the guys got the duals installed on one of the combines. I did laundry and household chores. It was so nice and cool we had the windows open all day in the camper. I made a roast with carrots and potatoes for supper. We were able to open the back of the camper and sit in a screen room for supper.
On Saturday, I made French toast, bacon & hashbrowns for breakfast. The guys got the truck and combine unstuck and installed the duals on the other combine. Later, some of them went with one of our farmers to look at the fields. Our 2nd job involves a 70 mile one-way haul through some big hills. Some of us are heading back to North Dakota for a few days. The grain cart will be coming back with us to help with our next job.
I spent the day doing more laundry, house work and sewing. I started working on a quilt for our grandson who is expected to arrive in August. His room theme is John Deere. I am going to make the center black with his name and tractors on both sides. The whole thing is flannel. I also made bandanas for our girls. My boys said they look like cowgirls now.
I mentioned before that we were camped out in a tourist trap town. It has not affected us until this year. There have been no hotel rooms available, except on random days and usually only for 1-3 nights at a time. We’ve had to make accommodations for extra people in the campers. Luckily, we had the extra beds but we had to “make” pillows out of towels and pull extra blankets off the kids’ beds. I will be grabbing bedding during our trip home! I won’t be journaling until we get back in the field next week.
