We had several rain delays in Healy, Kansas.
Amanda Buus Thomsen – BT Harvesting
Goodbye Kansas, Hello Colorado! …well, kinda.
Yesterday was a moving day for us. It seems that moving days are always super long days for everyone…me included. We leave early in the morning and, if possible, harvest as late as we can. But there is always something that comes up and plans that change.
We also had some beautiful sunsets, too!
The night before I noticed that our dog, Chloe, wasn’t acting normally so I decided to take her to the vet while everyone else made their way to Colorado. I haul a 40’ header on moving days so I dropped that at the local John Deere dealership so I didn’t have to worry about finding parking for it. As soon as I got that unhooked Anders called to let me know I needed to run to a town 30 miles away to pick up the new a/c units for our camper. Let me tell ya’ll…hail is expensive. It damaged both of our a/c’s beyond repair. Seriously, how did HarvestHER’s of the past cook in a camper with no air?
Our harvest crew mascot, Chloe Ann, hasn’t been feeling well lately. Hard to believe she’ll be 13 in October!
Chloe and I made the four-hour haul to the camper, got it all set up and got dinner out to the field. Of course, I forgot that we left one machine and an operator in Kansas to finish up a job and made an extra dinner. The guys didn’t seem to mind though…they were more than happy to make sure it didn’t go to waste.
We’re hoping to spend this 4th of July watching fireworks from the field. We’ve been blessed that we still have some of our acres, but this year, like every other harvester, we’re still looking for a few more. I got a few flyers made to hang up at local elevators before ending the night.
While long, I would consider our moving day successful. No accidents, no truck problems and we were able to start cutting as soon as we got here.
Wishing all the crews out there safe moving days and fireworks from the field!
Finishing up one field and dumping on the grain cart before moving on to the next.
I have to show off my flowers while I can! They never seem to look this nice by the end of the season.
Two of our machines running in Colorado. We have one machine finishing a job in Kansas.
