Yesterday we moved from Guymon, OK to Colby, KS and our drive probably could have gone a little smoother.
We started off with tightening the brakes on a combine trailer, we definitely don’t want to lose one of those. After a few miles, one of the service trucks decided to go into limp mode and was over heating, and about three minutes later our second service truck decides to do the same. One of our guys had rolled his ankles that morning and later on started hurting him so bad we had to shift around some drivers. It was a little like a jigsaw puzzle considering he was pulling oversize and doubles. After blowing out some radiators and giving them a drink of water we were off again. There was smooth sailing after that!
When we got back to the shop, Jim, DeAnn and everyone were all there to greet us as we pulled in the drive. We all tackled our homes on wheels first, had some supper and got some wheels on the ground. It was pretty neat to pull into the yard and be sharing it with Kent Braathen and his crew!
We got to cutting a little before lunch today and I don’t know how, but we have lucked out again and got into some awesome wheat! We just dodged a storm this afternoon and kept cutting, then tonight the rain finally got us. I’m sure the guys are as happy as I am that we actually get to catch up on a little sleep!
The best thing about today was having one of my favorite ladies come ride with me this afternoon! She even brought me some supper! Her soon to be husband is harvesting wheat about 30 miles south of Colby, KS, so she knows the drill when it comes to harvest. It made my entire day to have a great laugh and finally be able to talk about girl things for once! I need to kidnap her for the rest of harvest I think, I’m sure her hubby won’t mind!
Just awesome to be back in Colby, and have such a pretty sunset the first night back!
