Yesterday, I had the rare opportunity to visit with another HarvestHER!
Matthew & Rana Zeller of Zeller Harvesting Co. were chopping fairly close to where we live, so I spent the afternoon visiting with Rana about everything from meals for the field to book work.
I also got to take a peek at how their operation works…
Matthew chopping swathed wheat.
Silage trucks keep the chopper moving.
The packer tractor waits for the truck to finish dumping.
The packer tractor got to work pushing the freshly chopped wheat up the pile and getting it packed down.
I know just how different silage chopping is from grain harvesting. Wow! It sure is different from what this wheatie is used to!
A big thank you to Matthew, Rana, Elena and Hadassah Zeller for letting me spend the afternoon with you!
Now, it’s time to get back to our reality of getting our equipment ready to hit the road.
Amanda and her husband, Anders, own BT Harvesting and call Kiowa, Kansas "home, home". Amanda grew up on a farm in Illinois. Prior to meeting Anders in 2011, she was an Ag Teacher and knew very little about the custom harvesting lifestyle. In 2013, she joined Anders for the full harvest run and hasn't looked back. Amanda wears many hats during the harvest journey - chef, payroll clerk, accountant, tractor driver, "go-fer", combine operator, photographer, mechanic, etc.
