It’s that time of the year where I need to be planning a menu, making lists and starting my “million things to do” list. But, truthfully, it is hard to feel like harvest is just around the corner when it’s 22 degrees outside today and there is snow on the frozen ground! Plus, according to the weatherman, there is more snow coming! A year ago today, we were in our own fields getting ready to plant wheat! I am not complaining one bit because we are in DIRE need of moisture and, besides, at the present moment, this last snowstorm buried our applicators!
I wish I could say I am organized and on top of things all year-long but as I grow older, I prefer to challenge myself, “save money” and go with whatever is in the cupboard. Use up what we have, so to speak. It does get exciting once in a while and maybe even “the same old thing” but, truthfully, you can save a lot of money on simplifying your menu and groceries by using all that you have on hand.
Ok so to be 😎, I googled “easy supper”…I have many, many cookbooks and why am I googling???
Cheeseburger Sliders came up and I thought, “Well, the ham and cheese sliders I make are always a hit. They are worth a try and, besides, I actually have the ingredients”. Well, not all but, really, at my age and experience, it doesn’t bother me to “improvise”.😉👵🏻

So I print the recipe.
Frozen “dollar buns” will do.
Got the cheese.
Good ‘ole North Dakota beef.
Bacon Bacon 😀
A little sauce = butter, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and dab of mustard.
I always love a toasted bun so thought, “What the heck…why not?”
Add the burgers (simply added a package of Lipton soup mix, an egg, salt and pepper to the beef prior to cooking).
Topped with cheese.
Added the Bacon Bacon.
Some people use a pastry brush, I kept it country real,
Then felt bad and used the brush🤣
Ladies, if you haven’t got an air fryer…let me tell you, I love this one – Bella from Kohl’s. Quickest, easiest and cleanest way to add potatoes to your meal!
Nice drawer, easy open and clean. You simply set your temperature, timer and roll.
Easy clean!
My favorite part is very few dishes!
Tonight’s and the remainder of the week’s temperatures!
As I put the sliders in the oven, the snow is starting to fall.
And my Easter Lilly still has a couple of blooms to go!
Snowflakes are getting bigger!
Baked for 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
These sliders turned out well! The brown sugar gave a caramelized taste to the bread! I will make them again.👍🏻
No matter how I edited this picture, that silver spot up top wouldn’t go away and the irony of spring and a long-sleeved flannel with an apron is worse than an unorganized cupboard! I will put that on next week’s “to do” list.
Nancy has been making the custom harvest journey with her husband, Myron, since 1982. In those early years of life on the road, she could be found in the combine or truck - along with any or all of their four children. These days, her time is mostly spent taking care of two campers, walking to the clothesline and back, cooking on the grill, paperwork in the office and windshield time in the cab of a pickup. Whatever it takes to “get ‘er done”! When Myron and Nancy aren't on the road, they call South Heart, North Dakota home.
